Impingement

Hip Impingement Surgery.

A proportion of younger patients with hip pain have now been identified as having difficulties with the range of movement of their hip due to subtle anatomical deformities. This can predispose them to developing osteoarthritis at an early age and can cause significant disability with loss of function and employment. Patients with hip pain after referral require standard plain x-rays and will commonly require more complex investigations, such as CT scans, MRI scans and injection therapies to the hip. In cases were there is evidence of significant restriction of movement, operation to remove the bone from the front of the neck of the joint and reconstruct the cartilage around the hip are now available. This surgery is commonly called hip resculpting. This surgery has been popularised by Ganz in Switzerland. Mr Clarke is trained in performing this surgery and the use of the Ganz approach surgery.
